Chhattisgarh’s ace shuttler Aakarshi Kashyap qualifies for Badminton Asia Mixed Team Championship | Raipur News – Times of India

RAIPUR: Ace shuttler from Chhattisgarh, Aakarshi Kashyap, who holds world rank 32 at present, qualified for the Badminton Asia Mixed Team Championship to be organised in Dubai from February 14 to 19.
Aakarshi will be representing India in the championship in Singles alongside P V Sindhu, the most successful shuttler and sportsperson in India.
While Sindhu is the automatic qualifier for the Dubai championship, Aakarshi had to pass through the qualifier organised by the Badminton Association of India (BAI) at Noida to fill up the second spot.
Aakarshi defeated 43rd seed Ashmita Chaliha in straight sets by 21-13, 24-22, in a match played on Tuesday, to seal the spot.
Aakarshi, who was in Noida to play the qualifier, told TOI that she had to play with Saina Nehwal, the second most successful woman shuttler in the country, but Saina was unable to turn up for the match for some unknown reason.
“When Saina did not come, I had to play against reserve player Ashmita. I am fortunate that I am going to represent India in the prestigious Dubai championship which will help improve my world ranking. The importance of the championship can be easily gauged from the fact that Sindhu is a part of the Indian team,” Aakarshi told TOI.
Before the Dubai championship, Aakarshi has to play some major tournaments including the highest level Malaysia Super 1000 tournament to be organised from January 10 to 15.
Apart from Aakarshi, P V Sindhu, Saina Nehwal and Malvika Bansod are the other players to represent India in the Malaysia Super 1,000.
Aakarshi is also going to represent India in the India Open Super 750 from January 17 to 22 followed by Indonesia Super 500 from January 22 to 24.
She has also sought entry for Thailand S 300 championship to be held from January 31 to February 5.
“Every tournament is important for me to improve my points and world ranking,” said the Commonwealth Games silver medalist.
