Hamas atrocities make ISIS look rational, says Biden in Israel – Times of India

NEW DELHI: US President Joe Biden on Wednesday said that atrocities committed by Hamas militants made ISIS look “somewhat rational”.
The US president, who is on a solidarity visit to Israel, backed the ally’s account that Palestinian militants caused a devastating hospital strike in Gaza, adding Hamas had brought “only suffering.”
“Based on what I’ve seen, it appears as though it was done by the other team, not you,” Biden told Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu during a meeting, referring to Hamas militants. However, Biden said there were “a lot of people out there” who weren’t sure what caused the blast.
“Americans are grieving, they really are,” Biden said. “Americans are worried.”
Netanyahu thanked visiting Biden for his “unequivocal support” in the war and gave an updated death toll from the Hamas cross-border attack.
Al-Ahli Hospital in Gaza city was hit by a huge explosion on Tuesday, killing hundreds of Palestinians who were injured or seeking shelter there, according to the health ministry run by Hamas. The ministry said at least 500 people died in the blast at al-Ahli hospital.
While Hamas attributed the blast to an Israeli airstrike, the Israeli military denied involvement and said the explosion was caused by a misfired Palestinian rocket.
“Intelligence from multiple sources we have in our hands indicates that Islamic Jihad is responsible for the failed rocket launch which hit the hospital in Gaza,” an Isreal defence force spokesperson said.
Meanwhile, United Nation’s secretary-general António Guterres has called for an ‘immediate humanitarian ceasefire’ as the Israel-Hamas war raged on for the 12th day.
