No power in universe can bring back Article 370: PM Modi | India News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: In his first remarks on the Parliament security breach last week, PM Narendra Modi said the incident was “very serious” and it should be thoroughly investigated to unearth the elements behind it and their objective.
In an interview with Hindi daily Dainik Jagran, the PM said there was no need for a squabble and a “detailed investigation” should be carried out.
“The incident that happened in Parliament is very sad and worrying. Its severity should not be underestimated at all. Therefore, the Speaker is taking the necessary steps with full sincerity. The agencies are investigating with utmost seriousness and have taken stringent measures. It is equally important to get to the bottom of this to find the elements responsible for it and their motives. Such an incident should be condemned unanimously and solutions should also be found unanimously. Everyone should avoid recrimination and opposition on such topics,” the PM said.
He reiterated the government’s stand that a high-powered committee had already been constituted and its report was likely in the next 15-20 days.
The PM’s comments came amid strong indications that the opposition would continue to disrupt Parliament to demand a statement from home minister Amit Shah.
The government has insisted that security in the Parliament complex is the responsibility of the Lok Sabha secretariat and it has been following the Speaker’s directives. It also cited numerous such violations in the past, accusing the opposition of politicising the issue.
Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla had on Saturday written to all MPs seeking their help in running Parliament uninterruptedly, saying the security breach was being looked into seriously and several measures had been taken.
Birla had condemned linking of the suspension of 14 MPs from the House with the security breach by opposition parties.
He maintained that action was taken as per norms as the MPs were carrying placards in the House, which was against the decision taken when proceedings shifted to the new House. However, opposition parties are said to be firm on their stand seeking a statement on the floor of the House by Shah. Parliament proceedings have been washed out since the incident took place.
